The King's Highway
The King's highway is one of the most ancient roads at all, it was mentioned by the name in the bible as the king's highway was the rout that Moses (pbuh) wished to follow as he led his people out of Egypt toward the north through the land of Edom which was situated south of Jordan at that time .
The name of the highway has come after the Three Kings who established and built the road as the road passes through their kingdoms and connects the three kingdoms of Edom, Moab and Ammon with the Arabian Peninsula and therefore the road was named the Kingsway .
The
kings Highway winds it's way through a deferent ecological zones of the country
including forested highland , open farmland plateaus , deep valleys, eastern
desert, and the warm tropical gulf of Aqaba .
The
length of the road is about 335km and it is rich of a chain of archaeological
sites that was built all the way around the road such as Crusader castles ,
Byzantine churches, Nabatean Temples, and Islamic castles and towns .
The
Kings highway starts at Amman then winds south towards the Plateaus of Hesban ,
Dhiban, Madaba and Aroer then the road goes through the shallow Wadi Al wala
valley and wadi Al Mujib then goes up to the south bank of Wadi Al Mujib to the
Plateaue of ancient Moab Kingdome then passing Al qasser and Al rabba then
Mu'tah and AlMazar where happened the first clash between the Armies of Islam
and the Crusaders in 632AD , then the road goes through Wadi Al Hasa and enters
the ancient Kingdome of Edom and its capital ( Busiera) , then south toward Al
Shobak and Petra then the road passes through Wadi Rum and ends at the warm
Tropical of Aqaba Gulf .
